Zeswitz Music Hires Strings Specialist Sonya Hoffman

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Zeswitz Music Hires Strings Specialist Sonya Hoffman

Reading, PA –February, 2016

In a crescendo that’s akin to the company’s return as the instrumental provider of choice for area school districts, Zeswitz Music welcomes another expert to the team: Sonya Hoffman, Strings Specialist. A music teacher for the North Penn School District in Hatfield, PA, Hoffman will serve Zeswitz Music by reviewing instruments for their sales stock, improving their rental fleet, researching potential whole-sale companies, and according to Hoffman, “helping students find really great instruments that are perfect for their needs.” Hoffman, a viola and violin player by trade, claims “Work? This isn’t work. It’s my passion.”

Hoffman, who earned a BA in Music Education from Millersville University and a Master’s in Music Education from Philadelphia’s University of the Arts, will also serve Zeswitz Music’s clients by attending sales appointments on the weekends. “When you’re purchasing a string instrument, it’s important that the person selling the instrument also plays the instrument. Playing a string is difficult; that task can be made easier or more challenging based on the quality of the instrument and its fit for the musician,” says Hoffman. She also concedes she gets to “geek out” every time a new shipment of instruments comes into the shop for review.

In addition to her full-time work as a music educator and her part-time employment with Zeswitz Music, Hoffman can be found gigging around town as part of the blue grass band The Derelict Franchise, a trio that includes banjo, guitar, and Hoffman on the violin. She also performs at weddings as a member of the North Penn String Quartet, and in the Bucks County Symphony on the viola. Hoffman is a member of the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association and the National Association for Music Education.

Zeswitz Music’s efforts to enhance their team of experts began two years ago last July, when new owner Randy Shayler returned the company to their roots as an independently owned business. Says Shayler, “the addition of Hoffman to our roster allows us to provide even more personalized attention to our schools, their music educators, and the students.”  In October of 2015, the company hired Bret Mascaro, a recently retired high school band director and music department coordinator of 35 years, as their Director of Education.
